The WordPress.org software is a very stripped down, basic program.  If you want to install ads, track users, or do a number of things other than simply write posts, you’ll need to install plugins.  While installing plugins is more or less the same as installing new WordPress themes, there are a few differences, and almost every one is different.

How To Install A New WordPress Theme

When I was trying to install a new theme for my WordPress.org sites (for example, the site you’re looking at now) the only instructions that I could find were “upload it to your wp-content folder and extract it”.  The problem was, I couldn’t find the folder!  More than that, once I was able to find the folder for my main site (yet to be built), it didn’t automatically install on all of my WordPress accounts.  It took several more days for me to find the correct folders.  So here’s a simple step-by-step on how to install new WordPress themes on your WordPress accounts through HostGator’s CPanel.

#1- Follow the link in your welcome email from HostGator that opens your CPanel and sign in.

#2- You’re now looking at CPanel.  Scroll to the bottom of the icons and look towards the right.  You should see a blue smiley face labeled Fantastico De Luxe.  Click this icon. (more…)
